Corsica has about 3000 plant species and 5% of them are endemic. Because of its insularity and the diversity of its landscapes, the island of beauty is undoubtedly a territory apart.
Jacques Gamisans, an eminent botanist, said: "The Corsicans are the repositories of a valuable plant heritage, one can even say of world value, since some of these species are present only on the island".
140 plant species are only present in Corsica which gives it a very great phytogeographical originality.
Ruta corsica, Crocus corsicus, Biscutella rotgesii, Centranthus trinervis, Clinopodium corsicum, Digitalis micrantha, Viola corsica ... the list of floral treasures offered by the island of beauty is invaluable and extremely rich.
It should be noted that Corsica constitutes one of the 10 regional biodiversity hotspots identified on the Mediterranean rim. These territories of high floristic richness are unfortunately threatened.
It is more than ever necessary to reconcile man with his environment.
